What is the smallest sized closed chassis will the Jeston Orin Nano fit into with out thermal throttling taking place. Will be using cooper thermal and Frore cooling System
it depends on your application and ambient temperature in the chassis.
Junction & Hotspot Thermal Thresholds: In densely packed 8×8 form factors, standard ambient airflow is absent. What is specific thermal design power (TDP) dissipation limits per node and the recommended hardware-level thermal shutdown and slow-down trip points (nvidia-smi or tegrastats integration) to prevent premature clock-frequency scaling.
Interface & Cold-Plate Efficiency: Given the constraints of an air-gapped, sealed chassis, What is NVIDIA’s optimal recommendations for phase-change thermal interface materials (TIM) or custom liquid-to-air cold plate configurations designed to handle localized heat flux without relying on external intake fans.
Telemetry & Autonomous Throttling Control: How the system firmware should handle programmatic event triggers when ambient internal chassis temperatures rise, particularly regarding the customization of BPMP thermal framework limits or SMI-based power-capping profiles to maintain deterministic processing performance during intensive, offline AI training workloads.
Please refer to the Jetson Orin NX Series Thermal Design Guide for thermal spec.
- Thermal throttle : 99’C on SoC die
- Thermal shutdown : 105’C on SoC die
Make sure you should apply TIM (Thermal Interface Material) on SoC and gap filler on components like memories and power components which generate heat.
A liquid cool is better performance than air cool but it is cost / complex and heavy.
If you disable throttle, then the next even will be just shutdown, which is not recommended in general use.
Great, thank you!
Jeff
Would running a couple of air tunnels using the Frore system to push it out work?
Thanks
Can I contact you directly? Off forum
I think it would be better than nothing.
Let me know if you have further question.
I am an application engineer in NVIDIA.
Are you able to do any side work or are you bound through contract with Nividia?
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
Unfortunately, I am afraid I won’t be able to help with that as it is outside my team’s scope of work. If you have no further questions, please help close this topic. Thanks!
