x86_64-331.20 and prior nvidia driver/installations will not run properly with Geforce GTX 780M

I’ve tried all sorts of things to get this to work properly and have not been able to get passed the dreaded black screen. With the new driver it seems I’m encountering a segment fault too after X talks to the card ,and loads the nvidia driver into memory. I’ve only been able to use my laptop’s screen with X if I remove my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and let the auto detect flip back to what I believe is a framebuffer mode (I could be wrong - its the right resolution).

Also, my laptop has 4 screens technically. 1 x HDMI port, 1 x VGA, 1 x Mini DisplayPort, and the actual 1920 x 1080 17.3" screen.

Any insight would be appreciated. I’ve been toying with X/nvidia drivers for the past few weeks and figured I’d finally take to the forums. Thanks in advance!

my laptop specs are:
MSI GT Series GT70 2OD-089US
Intel Core i7 4930MX(3.00GHz)
32 GB Memory
1TB HDD
384GB SSD 17.3"

debian based distro - X.ORG 1.12.4
latest nvidia drivers (331.20)
