Xavier Devkit J512 does not detect USB-SATA drive on L4T 35.1.0

Hello,

I am attempting to connect a USB-C to SATA adapter to my Jetson AGX Xavier via port J512. The Jetson is running L4T 35.1.0. There is a SATA SSD attached to the adapter.

The Jetson does not seem to recognize that the SSD is connected when I connect the adapter to port J512. udevadm monitor does not show any events when I disconnect or connect the adapter. lsusb also does not show an entry for the SSD. The drive is not listed as a block device in lsblk. However, a power indicator light on the adapter does illuminate when plugged into J512.

Connecting the drive to the devkit’s other USB-C port yields a lot of errors (in dmesg):

This hardware configuration worked well on L4T 32.7.1. What do I need to do to get the Jetson to correctly detect this device on this port?

Are you using the devkit or custom board for AGX Xavier?
Could you help to verify with latest R35.3.1?

Do you configure anything in device tree with R32.7.1?
Is there any dmesg when you use it as expected with this release?

We are using the AGX Xavier devkit. Our software team is working on an upgrade to 35.1.1 now but I expect this may take some time. Any input on potential fixes at 35.1.0 would be greatly appreciated.

We did not have to change the device-tree for 32.7.1 to get this behavior working.

On 35.1.0, dmesg | grep sda does not return any messages.

It seems your issue is caused from new_probe() function.
You could try to add some debug messages in new_probe() of wipefs.c.

Do you format it as ext4 before use?

I have a SATA to USB-A adapter, therefore, I add an USB-A to USB-C gender again for J512.
It works pretty well.
