XFI MAC-MAC Connectionn between two AGX Orins

Hello. I want to create a carrier board with two AGX Orins connected to each other using a 10 GbE interface.

Can the XFI/SFI port of one AGX Orin be connected directly to the XFI/SFI of another, for a direct MAC-MAC connection, so without any PHY ICs?
I realize this type of connection was not validated and the device tree setting for this network interface only allow settings for a PHY or switch, but according to the XFI protocol this should be possible and would be the most convenient way of having a high speed network connection between two Jetsons on one PCB without additional components.

Could you please advise if there are other settings to be applied to the XFI port (outside of PHY or switch)? I have designed a connector which connects the TX/RX lines of both Jetsons and provides a clock signal (just like in the PHY ) so I have test setup ready.

If there is a reason why this can’t work, I would high appreciate if you could explain so that there is no time wasted in this pursuit.

Any updates regarding this ?

We don’t validate this design before so cannot guarantee existing software can run it or not.

You could consider using PCIe for connection between two AGX Orin Dev Kits. Refer to Figure 7-5 PCIe Jetson AGX Orin RP to Jetson AGX Orin EP connection Example in the AGX Orin design guide.
