Hello,

I encountered an issue while trying to install the Omniverse Connector for SideFX Houdini. The following error message appears:

Couldn’t determine houdini20.5 user preferences directory location for install.

Because of this, the Connector cannot be installed properly. I have already checked the following:

  • The Houdini version (20.5) is correctly installed and fully functional.
  • The Documents folder is accessible, and Houdini has no issues saving files or accessing it.
  • The Windows Security feature (Ransomware Protection) has been reviewed, and there is no blocking of Omniverse or its components.

My System Information:

  • Operating System: Windows 11
  • Houdini Version: 20.5.370
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 with the last studio driver

We are investigating this now. We will come back to you. Can you examine the install script and look where it is trying to install the user preferences. You might need to manually modify that path to your own path.

“HoudiniConnectorInstall.bat”

Do you have any special characters in your install path? So special nonstandard character that could be changing the path and preventing our installer from finding the right path?

thank you for your response. However, I cannot find the HoudiniConnectorInstall.bat file. Could you please let me know where this file is located or where I should be looking for it?

We just mean, find the file that starts the installation. It is usually an “exe” on Windows. Or it could be a “.bat” file.
