Combine prims to create one prim when selected

I need to combine a se of prims that were part of a STEP file to make them one single prim when selected. At this time each part, panel or screw is selected individually. Is there a way to combine them all or put a mask over them that is selectable? CAD modeler by trade so if there are any non-coding methods that is preferred!

Thank you all

Hi there, and thanks for your post. The only two methods to achieve this is 1) combine them first in your CAD application, or 2) group them under an xform in USD Composer, so when you select the group head / parent, it selects everything below. So for example, if you have 10 screws you can grab them all and use the “group” command. All this does it create a new empty xform and puts the screws below it. You can do the same thing manually if you wish.

@Richard3D Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, the option to combine them in CAD is not doable at this time. We are working on finding another solution. When I attempt to group them together I receive the following error:

2024-10-22 17:57:56 [Error] [omni.usd.commands.usd_commands] Cannot move/rename ancestral prim /World/_LAS_207_20EVO_20FED_20Test_203/Geometry/_LAS_7_EVO_FED_Test_3_0/_LAS_7_RPP_Assy_Belimo_FED_13047/RPP_Hyper_Shell_21243/RPP_Hyper_Shell_STEP_21245/_420_001703_STEP_21247/_420_001703_6_STEP_21260/NONE_13097

It’s usually because the prim is referenced in. The standard CAD converter workflow will convert to a USD file and then “reference” that file into your scene. If you want to modify the hierarchy of the referenced asset you need to open that asset directly and modify it there.

Or rather than referring the cad model like an fbx or stp file, you need to fully convert and collapse it to a pure use file. No cad reference.
