How to verify if DGX Spark is fully powered off?

I am using HDMI-over-wifi tools to let my DGX Spark to be connected directly to the router. And I don’t find a proper, safe way to check if DGX Spark is powered off or it is just in some napping / suspended status.

What would be the recommended way of checking whether DGX Spark is truly powered off, or is in the middle of shut down status?

Maybe my googling / search ability (with aid of Gemini & ChatGPT) is not so good enough…

I have a USB-C to USBA and HDMI hub connected to the DGX Spark and this hub has led light. I use it to verify if it’s off or on.

Thanks @user158576. I’m afraid if I have a USB hub with LED on it, but your suggestion seems reasonable. I’ll try and share if it work as expected.

You could also use a smart power plug like a Shelly Plug S or a similar smart plug and check the power usage.

Also very handy when your are in need of a power cycle, but not near your box. ⚡️ Those cheaper plugs require a WiFi connection.

Shelly devices have been known to expose Wi-Fi credentials in clear-text during setup and ever since I had a run in with an evil-twin wifi attack I’ve been checking on-boarding specially for wifi enabled apps.

TopGreener was the one I saw that can handle higher voltage and I think it’s available internationally if I recall.

only for one of their Thermostatic Radiator Valves. 😅 Not their plugs. I like them also because of their slim form factor and because they need no cloud access.

You can also check the corresponding Ethernet port light on your router. Spark powers up the Ethernet port at power on (unless you booted non-NVIDIA Linux kernel without r8127 driver which screws up ethernet adapter on reboot and requires full power cycle).

Ya, this is a basic design flaw. They failed to include a simple LED light, its very annoying. The easiest way to know if its off is to pull the power plug from the power source. Or flip the switch on the power-bar. Same problem when you are trying to determine if its started also.

Yes, it’s very annoying. You can also hold your hand next to the front panel. If you feel air movement, it’s on.
I wish they put a LED in there. They could even make it look cool by illuminating NVIDIA logo on the front panel.

That’s been an issue for me as well. I touch it to check if it is hot.

ASUS has included a power switch with an LED in their version. Just stumbled upon their first steps video.

It looks rather inconspicuous, though.

Confirmed that USB Hub’s LED correctly indicates the status of the power shut down.

I hadn’t checked suspended mode yet, but for now this is sufficient for me.

The LED sensor on a directly connected mouse seems to be an indicator.
