I can't install jetpack 4.2 sdk on my tx2

I am installing jetpack 4.2 using sdkmanager. I was successful until flashing. However, during the installation of sdk I get the message “jetson device is in recovery mode.” And I can not install it. How should this problem be addressed?

Are you put your TX2 device into recovery mode?

[REC mode]
press and hold the “REC” (force recovery) button for the duration of this step. Then, if your Jetson Developer Kit is powered off, press and release the “POWERBTN” button, or if your Jetson Developer Kit is already powered on, press and release the “RST” (reset) button. Finally, release the “REC” button.

I just flashed my tx2 and rebooted. I want to get out of recovery mode. What should I do?
that document has no idea about that.

Looks your device is into recovery mode.
After completes the flashing proces and initial setup process, the tx2 boots to the Linux desktop.
–> Are you see the Linux desktop screen?

Then you can enter username and password to continue install SDK components.

I experience the same problem. After finishing initial setup wizard I’ve seen the Ubuntu desktop, but SDK Manager continues to say device is in recovery mode.
I’ve rebooted the TX2 a few times (including complete poweroff), but it doesn’t help.

I am currently experiencing the same error with Jetson 4.2 and sdkmanager with a xavier.

After you see the Ubuntu desktop on Jetson devices,

  1. Are you able to ping 192.168.55.1? This is the IP address of jetson device with USB connected.
  2. What’s the output of ip addr command on your host machine? Do you see 192.168.55.100?

Responses:

  1. No, I am not able to ping 192.168.55. Matter of fact, watching the install via the terminal instead of looking at the pretty ui indicates that both 4.2 and 4.1.1 both fail to ssh into the xavier, manually attempting to ssh from my box to the xavier fails as well, unsurprisingly.

Not an answer, but do understand that scp and ssh are used for file installs after flash completes and the Jetson reboots. SSH itself has rules for what it checks during connection. Part of that is to first see if the connection has been seen before, and if not, then it asks if you trust the connection. Following that there are checks to see if you are configured for key-based access, or if just password will be used. In the case of “.pub” keys there is no risk to make them available anywhere/everywhere…these allow encoding, but do not decode. During a test to see if pub keys already exist you may find a failed test or on login there could be a copy of your pub key to the destination (and to emphasize, a pub key is not a risk).

The host itself has keys. The end user has keys. A given connection is the combination of host and user keys. “known_hosts” is a way to remember if a connection was seen and accepted previously. Once accepted a change is pointed out to the user as something suspicious.

I had a failure during the flashing process on a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 on my host. It turned out that a fresh install of Ubuntu didn’t include python 2.7, thus failing the flash script. I would suggest adding python as a dependency on the sdkmanager DEB file so it gets resolved automatically.

I hit the same problem and managed to solve it. When the device is connected to the host, a folder called “L4T-README1” would pop up and you should read “README-usb-dev-mode.txt” carefully. Essentially you should configure the host usb interface connecting the device to be in the 192.168.55.0/24 network. The host needs a route to 192.168.55.1 to install the packages. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I’d say that’s quite a diagnostic failure. Putting out “jetson device is in recovery mode” when the real problem is that the USB ethernet network on 192.168.55.0/24 isn’t set up (as noted by tewei.lui above) is impressively misleading. :-)

For me on my host (laptop, Ubuntu 16) I went to Settings -> Network and started enabling interfaces until the one with 192.168.55… showed up. Then it all worked.

I’ve got similiar problems using Ubuntu 18.04.2 as the host. Spent hours on this and am not getting anywhere. Yes Python 2.7 is installed and I’ve disabled anaconda

If you still see the below error, please manually put device to recovery mode again and retry above command.
