ISAAC SIM 2021.1 Launch from Omniverse fail, TypeError: t is not iterable

Hi, when I launch ISAAC Sim from Omniverse, I see a black screen for a split second before it disappears. And then nothing happens. See attached video link.

I have NVIDIA-SMI 460.84, Driver Version: 460.84, CUDA Version: 11.2, 2x GeForce RTX 3080
Install on Ubuntu 18.04, with ROS Melodic and installed ISAAC SDK 2021.1 (Sim, SDK and Omniverse are all fresh installs). ISAAC Sim 2021.1 was installed from Omniverse > Exchange, ISAAC SDK was installed from official zipped file. Both without errors.

It appears that you ran IsaacSim from the Omniverse Launcher, which should have brought up a secondary launcher window that offered several options, including β€˜headless’. Is that how it went, and if so, are you running β€˜headless’ here? Do you have any older versions of IsaacSim installed on this machine?

It’s just a black window for a split second, no Isaac options, no headless.

I tried to install the Sim two weeks ago from a bash script file, but that did not work for me (I think my Cuda version 11 was too high?). The install through Omniverse launcher is fresh.

After I wrote this post, I notice that installing and launching other omniverse apps ends with the same error. It is probably an omniverse issue rather than an Isaac one?

Ah, interesting, can you plug your monitor into the other GPU and try running?
By default omniverse uses the first GPU it finds and based on the nvidia-smi output you are running your monitor on the second GPU.

Is there a way to force it to use the other GPU? I tried plugging it in but there was no display signal found, not sure if this is a bad sign.

Yes, you can add a
--/renderer/activeGpu=1 when running isaac-sim.sh to specify which gpu is active.

You can verify that its set when kit starts and you see this section, the active gpu should change to the second.

Can you try this and see if it works? I can try getting my hands on a dual gpu machine to find the correct fix othwerwise.

Is there a way to specify the GPU for OmniKitHelper as well?

So no? I’ve seen the documentation. But running it in non headless mode (headfull?) breaks for probably the same reason the Sim was breaking? So I need to somehow specify to run it on the other GPU I assume?

yes, correct. you need to specify the active GPU with the method that Hammad proposed.

Hi, just wanted to answer my own question:

OmniKitHelper according to the link you sent does not list GPU selection as an option, however it is there! I needed to pass "active_gpu": 1 in the config and it started successfully. Perhaps the documentation can be updated to reflect that this is an option?

I would like to know if I can specify in the omniverse GUI launcher to use the GPU=1 somehow.

Yes. In the Isaac Sim App Selector, enter the flag in the β€œExtra Args:” text box then click START.
