Error in activating the carb windowing plugin on startup and physx cct extension :

Same kit streaming with react app is working completely fine in physical windows machine.

This is probably due to the fact that you still need a “physical monitor” attached to the virtual machine for correct carb initialization. If not you at least need the correct ServerX installed to create a true virtual monitor. You cannot run Omniverse without an “output” display, virtual machine or not.

The core problem is that the Kit app cannot create a windowing / GL context on your Azure VM, so anything that needs carb::windowing::IWindowing (including parts of PhysX CCT and the viewport/streaming stack) keeps failing. All the repeated “GLFW initialization failed” warnings are symptoms of “no working X/display environment” rather than GPU issues.

Key errors in the log

  • GLFW initialization failed and Failed to startup plugin carb.windowing-glfw.plugin (IGLContext, IWindowing) appear from the very start and then repeatedly later.
    This means GLFW cannot open a display, so there is no OS window / GL context backing the viewport.
  • failed to open the default display. Can’t verify X Server version. indicates no usable X11 display for the process.
  • Error during PhysX CCT activation: Failed to acquire interface: carb::windowing::IWindowing shows downstream systems that expect a windowing interface are failing because carb.windowing-glfw never initialized.

Your GPU (NVIDIA A10-24Q with Vulkan) is detected correctly, ECC warnings and NVML “not supported” messages are non‑fatal; the bottleneck is the missing/invalid display environment.

Why this happens on Azure

On typical Azure GPU VMs running Ubuntu you either:

  • Have no graphical session (no Xorg / Wayland, no virtual display), but run Isaac/Kit apps that expect to create a GLFW window and/or use non‑headless renderers.
  • Or you connect via RDP/SSH without configuring a virtual display (DISPLAY env, Xvfb, NICE DCV, or similar).

In that situation, any attempt by Kit to start carb.windowing-glfw fails because it cannot talk to an X server or get a valid display.

Ways to fix or work around it

Pick one of these setups depending on whether you want full GUI or pure headless streaming:

1) Proper remote-GUI stack (recommended for livestream/WebRTC)

  • Install and configure a supported remote display solution on the Azure VM:
    • NICE DCV, NoMachine, or a full desktop/Xorg session with VirtualGL, as recommended in Isaac Sim / Omniverse headless docs.
  • Start an X session (or DCV session), log into it, then launch your Kit/UCB Viewer process inside that session so it has a valid DISPLAY.
  • Verify from the running shell that echo $DISPLAY is non‑empty before starting the app.

Once GLFW can connect to an X server, those GLFW initialization failed and Failed to startup carb.windowing-glfw.plugin warnings should disappear, and PhysX CCT and the livestream extensions can get IWindowing correctly.

2) Force a virtual X server (Xvfb) for headless streaming

If you want to keep it “headless” but still need a windowing backend:

  • Install Xvfb:
    • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y xvfb
  • Start a virtual display:
    • Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1920x1080x24 &
  • Export DISPLAY before launching the Kit app:
    • export DISPLAY=:1
    • then run your Kit / UCB Viewer command.

This gives GLFW a fake display to bind to, so carb.windowing-glfw and IWindowing can initialize, while you still stream via WebRTC instead of drawing to a physical monitor.

3) Use a fully headless renderer mode (if supported by your app)

Some Kit/Isaac apps support flags like --no-window or --/app/window/enabled=false plus RTX headless rendering. However, your log shows repeated attempts to initialize carb.windowing-glfw, suggesting this particular app or configuration expects a windowed environment for its streaming pipeline and for PhysX CCT, so pure “no-window” may not be enough for your UCB Viewer setup.

What isn’t really a problem

  • Can’t read ... user_settings.toml – it just means Isaac/Kit will create defaults; not blocking.
  • ECC enabled, NVML “not supported” for PCI‑e link gen – informational, not fatal for rendering/streaming.
  • Possible version incompatibility warnings for CudaInterop and IStageReaderWriter – noisy but not the root cause here unless you also see hard crashes; your problem shows up earlier with windowing.

So to get streaming working from that Azure Ubuntu server, you need to give the Kit/UCB Viewer process a valid X/display environment (via DCV/desktop session or Xvfb) so carb.windowing-glfw.plugin and carb::windowing::IWindowing can initialize; once that’s in place, the streaming server and PhysX CCT should stop failing on windowing.
