Jetson orin nano board shortcircuit

Hey everyone,

im having trouble with the jetson orin nano power supply.
some context: im deploying jetson nano’s in the field with a setup that uses solar energy with a battery and solarcharger controller.
the setup:
i have a battery 12v 80ah
i got a solarcharge controller

one with a less amp 12v 10a.

I’ve read the jeston can take between 7~19v so i thought i can put it directly on the battery, that was one jetson orin nano less… sadly it directly burned somehting on the module board.

the next step was trying it on the solarcharger controller but same result except the solarcharger turned the load output off before it could burn the next one.

im now buying a dc to dc converter from the same company (victron) 7v-40v to 12v 5a. Hoping its working then.
My question is , what am i doing wrong? im no expert in the world of electricity but i know enough (i thought).

Are you using devkit or custom board? Orin nano module can only bear 5V input. If custom board, it needs to guarantee the power supply to module is not higher than 5V.

Jetson nano orin dev kit 8gb

5v? Specifications of the power supply needed for Jetson Orin Development kit

Even the adapter that is deliverd with the package is 19v 2.37a

5V is for module. If devkit, 19V to devkit is ok. It looks like your power supply is higher than 19V, otherwise devkit won’t be damaged. Please check the real output voltage level of your power supply.

Battery reads 12.12v

No idea then. Will the adapter with the package cause this too?

no, i install them in the office with the adapter. and then tested it on the battery. a battery cant change in voltage suddenly, im afraid to try another one.this is the battery

It is strange. The adapter won’t cause this but the battery will…, there should be some wrong operating when you use battery. I am not sure what it is, but it should be the battery or your operation issue.

so for my understanding, if im doing everything right (not changing - and +) and put it on a battery 12v it would start up
