Can someone tell me what’s going on with the 2gb nano.
My PS is official pi 4 5.1 3A
It’s just hangs up now. Was working fine pas couple days
Already did a new fresh image install

Much of what is shown is not a problem, e.g., the rate limiting is normal. If you don’t have the imx camera showing i2c failures, then this would not be an error (you’d expect a missing camera to fail). However, if there are i2c fails on a system expected to work, then perhaps the device tree was updated and caused a problem.
The screenshot is not nearly enough to actually know what is happening. If you were to use a serial console, then you could log the entire boot from your host PC and upload the log. See:
https://www.jetsonhacks.com/2019/04/19/jetson-nano-serial-console/
Also, make sure to mention if this is a dev kit or other, and mention what peripherals are attached.
I ran it just pluging in the usb c power and hdmi only. Same errors.
i have a nano 2gb trying to find the documentation for using the microusb to get serial out.
Is there a prebuild image with the latest jetson pack and hello world ai working?
happy to reflash it and avoid the 20min setup to get the detectnet working. Already this this twice. Not gonna keep doing these steps if I can avoid it.
If you are looking for serial for the purpose of serial console, then the micro-B USB would not be correct, there is a different header for serial console. Note that the earliest carrier boards use a header in a different location than those of the newer carrier boards (for serial console). Take a look at the images here:
https://www.jetsonhacks.com/2019/04/19/jetson-nano-serial-console/
…the one with the header on the top of the carrier board near the camera end is for earlier boards. The one with the serial console pins being under the module at the edge of the carrier board are what most people have.
What I see visible from your screenshot is “mostly” normal, and there isn’t much of a way to debug further without the serial console log. There is so much more we could know if we had a full serial console boot log.
If you used the 4GB model image instead of the 2GB model image I doubt it would boot that far, but you might double check.

@linuxdev sorry had to find a ttl usb cable.
Ok this is strage it booted headless on its own? I am able to interact with the nano using serial console.
Any idea why it went into this mode?
Also is there a better way to post log so its formmated nicely?
did a ‘sudo reboot’ from serial console and this was the second log
it took a while at
‘setting vdd-core regulator to 11525000 micro volts’
and stopping at
‘usb usb1-port3: unable to enumerate USB device’
But when I press enter, it goes to the Ubuntu command login. Nothing on the hdmi monitor other than initial nvidia logo
Able to access hello AI folder and even run detectnet to a rtp server working but all headless using serial console only. the detectnet stream not showing up at the jetson hdmi output.
swapping usbcam shows it fails to create videoSource device but booting with it connected seems to work

Welcome to Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 4.9.140-tegra aarch64)
To restore this content, you can run the ‘unminimize’ command.
4 packages can be updated.
1 update is a security update.
test@test-desktop:~$ unmae name- -a
-bash: unname: command not found
test@test-desktop:~$ unname -a
Linux test-desktop 4.9.140-tegra #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Oct 27 21:02:37 PDT 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

Just a suggestion: If you edit your post with the log, and place an empty line above and below the actual log, and then place three single backquote’s (the unshifted tilde ~ key) as the sole content of the line above and below your post, then it’ll format it as code and add scroll bars. These three characters before and after, as their on lines, will format better:
```
Much of what was there looked normal, and there were some odd log lines, but I am not sure if those mean anything. Is it correct that you are able to log in ok via serial console?
Also, did you have a USB keyboard or mouse attached? I ask because of USB saying nothing found or error. If you had something connected and the device tree were wrong, then it would probably have similar errors.
One reason device tree might be wrong is if you flashed with the 4GB module software instead of the 2GB software.
Yes able to login via serial console. Once logged in can access even remotely through a reverse tunnel. Trying to see if auto-login on boot is possible so i can get rid of the ttl serial on boot.
@linuxdev I think the issue stems from this apt-get updare breaking the gui, that will be fixed in a future jetpack update. In the mean time I think i will just do a fresh image install and not update.
If you were to find an issue with a particular package, then that package could be marked “hold” until it is resolved. A serial console boot log might show the issue, but you are probably correct that just reflashing and not updating is quicker in the long run.
@linuxdev great. is there a way to auto-login on boot. my reverse tunnel only connects once the nano is logged in.
There is auto login as a setting, but I’ve not used this. It is possible not all public documents for Ubuntu 18.04 apply since some of the GUI environment differs, but you might check these URLs:
If you manage to get this working over an ssh
tunnel, then what you could do for security (if the network is not protected from random incoming traffic) is set up to allow ssh
logins only by key and tunnel through ssh
.
Has anyone else set up for automatic login?
No working
also curious to see if anyone else has it working through cli.
love to see what other rever tunneling services people are using.
Worst case i will refomat image and use gui
I was able to get the gui back by pressing ctrl-alt-f2 on boot
It seems to be an issue with lightdm. I just used ctrl-alt-f2 to switch to a different term after the screen goes blank on boot and switched to gdm.
@linuxdev autologin only works with gui enabled not via cli when running headless.
1. Edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-nvidia.conf and add below two lines:
autologin-user=nvidia
autologin-user-timeout=0
2. Save and reboot
Yes, I had not thought of auto login for a text terminal. Are you wanting auto login for the local monitor in text mode? Or for serial console? Either way you might find what follows useful, and I am sorry it is so long, but the details might keep you from breaking something if you are interested in digging in to this topic.
Before I show the URL which might be of interest, beware that Jetson getty
services are named a bit different and may not follow the same option availability. The following will show certain getty
services:
sudo systemctl list-units | grep -i 'getty.*service'
(depending on where you are looking there may be a different service to edit)
Also of interest:
`find /etc/systemd -name ‘getty’
Then:
ls -l `find /etc/systemd -name '*getty*'`
When modifying one of the standard services handled by systemd (including getty) it is customary to add the modified version of the service within “/etc/systemd/
”. Often the files there are just symbolic links into the default version of the file (which is somewhere in "/lib/systemd"). Basically you would leave alone the original service file under "
/lib/systemd" and copy the original somewhere under "
/etc/systemd/system/". During boot the "
/etc" version takes precedence. If you delete or
bzip2 the "
/etc" version, then the customizing becomes inert (I mention
bzip2because it is a good way to temporarily inactivate a file there, and then
bunzip2` the file to reactivate it during testing).
If a file in “/etc/systemd
” is a symbolic link, and you want to edit, then simply copy the original hard link within “/lib/systemd
” to the “/etc/systemd
” location, followed by editing the “/etc
” version. If you don’t like your edits, then you could put the symbolic link back in place, or else bzip2
your version (and perhaps also put the symbolic link back in place).
Note that I have not tried this on a Jetson, so it may not work. However, this URL mentions how to set up auto login for text consoles (and in theory serial consoles) via command line edits based on the above “/etc/systemd
” information:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/819117/how-can-i-get-autologin-at-startup-working-on-ubuntu-server-16-04-1
I was looking at the reply to the original poster’s question which was based on “/etc/systemd
” edits. This probably has a good chance of working if you name the “nv...
” version of the URL’s getty
edits. The “getty@tty1
” implies the text console found at ALT-F1
key binding (if in a console), or CTRL-ALT-F1
key binding (if in a GUI). Similarly, “getty@tty2
” is for the relevant key binding when using ALT-F2
or CTRL-ALT-F2
, and so on. One binding is for the X11 GUI if you have the GUI installed (perhaps even if it is not active), and you’d have to skip that one (getty
is replaced by the X login manager on the binding which is for the GUI). Find out which key binding associates with the text console you want to auto login. I’ll assume it is ALT-F2
, in which case you are interested in the getty variant (or following the them) of “getty@tty2
”. You could substitute for serial consoles as well.
Try to add the correct “/etc/systemd/system
” file. You might get the expected text terminal login.
