Hi,
I am using Omniverse composer to animate some large machine assemblies for a project. Where I’m experiencing difficulties thus far is with preserving assembly mates/constraints during the export and conversion process from SolidWorks to USD. Ideally, I’d like the mates to carry over as it would greatly simplify the animation process within Omniverse.
Is it to be expected that these features cannot carry over to different applications or file formats? Is there a certain way to export/convert these files which will help preserve mates? Or is there simply a different and better workflow for this task that I am unaware of?
Thanks!
Are you using one of our Connectors to convert to USD, or just doing in generically in Solidworks? Are you exporting to another file format? Or are you just using our built in importer?
Hi Richard,
The workflow I have been following is:
- downloading the files as SolidWorks part and assembly files (.SLDASM and .SLDPRT)
- dragging them into my Omniverse scene, thus converting them into USD
Is there a way of approaching this process where assembly mates are preserved as well? As joints, for instance, or as other physics constraints which seem to exist robustly in Omniverse. I understand this is not necessarily a basic expectation for a converter tool’s capabilities, but I wanted to confirm whether or not it was possible.
