I was testing some Iray renders with a pretty complex scene and noticed that in Composer it would often go to CPU rendering after 2-3 frames whereas in Create it would consistently stay on the GPU. Anyone else notice that doing renders in Create 3.3 is more stable?
I am sorry to hear that. Are you noticing a slow down in the iray rendering speed as well ? Do you have specific data to show the slow down ? It should be using your GPU as well as it can. Is this just with the iray renderer or the RTX renderers as well ?
The Iray speed is fine but it seems that once an image is rendered and saved, it spikes up the GPU Vram to full and then the renderer falls back to CPU. In Create 3.3 I never see the Vram spike once an image is saved. I have linked a video below of the spike, look at Vram usage in my task manager (sorry for the low quality video, didn’t want to use OBS)
This is just an issue with Iray. However I noticed that with RTX Path tracing in Create 3.3 and Composer 1.1that they seem to handle emissive lighting differently. The colors of the same frame are different. I might need to do more testing on this but can send a sample.
Thanks for the video. I am not sure specifically what is happening with your system, but could you “Collect” your scene using the “File > Collect” command and upload it. If you want to send it to me in a PM, you can. Can you make sure you have the latest video drivers installed. Is it just with one particular file ? How is it with other renderers ? Realtime and Path Tracing ? Is it just went rendering ? It seems like the video shows it getting stuck.
There are always minor and subtle shifts in the viewport settings between versions. I would still recommend the latest version and if needed tweak the file to suit.
Can you try to render the same scene as an animation in Path Tracing please. It is a lot faster too. Is there a reason you are using Iray over Path tracing by the way ?
I don’t have much time today so I will collect and send tomorrow. I initially did Iray because it handles glass much better, but switched to path tracing and cranked up the number of light bounces so that it looks comparable. Ya the problem is only when rendering an Iray video sequence in Composer 1.1 So far I have only been testing this one scene. As I said earlier the colours were different on the exact same frame in Create 3.3 and Composer 1.1 so for now I am just sticking to Composer 3.3 for consistency. I am on the latest Game Driver and updated to the very latest just a couple days ago.
