ROS2 Humble Bridge Crash

I’ve been unable to launch (or do) anything using the ROS2 Humble Bridge without crashing Isaac.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Isaac Sim with either the ROS2 Humble extension preloaded (using the kit base file), or by loading it manually after startup.
  2. Pressing ‘Play’ on the simulation, even without any USD scene or robot loaded.

In the log above was there a scene open that had a ROS2 context prim in an action graph? Can you confirm the outputs->context is zero before pressing play?

There was no scene open at all. Can you expand on what you’re referring to with the outputs->context comment?

This is what seems strange, can you make a video to show what happens with an empty stage?

What are you looking for a video of? I press play, nothing happens on the Isaac GUI, but you do see the crash messages on the terminal. Shortly after, the GUI window crashes as well. The same thing happens if I try to load a scene.

Is the excerpt from the log from after loading a scene and pressing play? or from an empty stage and pressing play?

Perfect, that’s what I was looking for, can you also attach the full log file, the path will be the first or second line in the terminal after starting sim.

Do you have humble sourced in the terminal running sim?
Can you run isaac sim without sourcing humble

Humble is not sourced, nor added to my bash. This happens without humble being installed at all (but it currently is, as that was one of my debug steps). I’m also running Isaac from the omniverse launcher, and not from the terminal. Attached is the most recent log (with sensitive information redacted).

We’ve been able to repro the issue on 22.04 but not 20.04
Still looking into what is going on on 22.04 as the binaries are exactly the same.

I’m also having this exact same issue! What’s worse is that it happens for just the ros2 bridge as well.

Hey! I got it working! Don’t exactly know if this will help you’re situation, but what I did was download a few dependencies.

I downloaded this deb folder:

wget http://nz2.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/o/openssl/libssl1.1_1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.17_amd64.deb

and then download the dependencies by running

sudo dpkg -i libssl1.1_1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.17_amd64.deb

in the same directory I downloaded it in

After that, I was able to load the ROS2 humble extension and run all my action graphs just fine!

Make sure that you DON’T source ros2 at all in the terminal that you’re running Isaac in (if you’re using the launcher, just make sure that you don’t source ros2 in your ~/.bashrc file. if you want to check this you can run env | grep ROS in your terminal. It should return nothing. If it doesn’t return nothing, then something is sourcing ros2 and you should remove whatever that is.)

Thanks for the info! Will give it a try. I’m doing everything in containers, so I actually dont have ROS on my host system at all. Seems interesting that they were missing dependencies, although not entirely unexpected. Thanks again for following up with what worked!
