Screen freeze after grub screen, pick Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10 in dualboot with W10, nvidia-driver 460.39

Hi all,

The screen freezes after selecting Ubuntu in Grub. The system is a dualboot (W10) with a newly installed GEFORCE RTX 3090, but the problem existed with the previous GPU as well. The following was tried to start the computer.

-add nomodeset to linux line
-purged all nvidia drivers and installed 460 new
-remove nvidia from blacklisting in etc/modeprobe.d/ nvidiafn (or fb) was blacklisted
-tried removing Xconf.org
-removed /lib/modeprobe.d/blacklist_nvidia.conf

None of the above have workd. The computer is able to start in safe mode and in a X session.

Please help.

With kind regards.

Please upgrade your bios first. If that doesn’t help, please enable journal persistence in Ubuntu, boot to hang, reboot to recovery mode and create a new nvidia-bug-report.log.

Try with HDMI cable, it’s known NVIDIA bug with 360 or newer. Let’s hope it’ll be fixed soon.
