TX2 OnBoard Camera Crashes

PSA: Linux rookie - I do not profess to be a Linux or CS genius so please be gentle

I am currently going through the tutorials found on GitHub by @dusty-nv on Inference. There is a python script to classify images using the live camera feed.

Once I run the script, it hangs up pretty bad. The only way to recover is to quit the Terminal. The error I get looks like this:

Error generated. /dvs/git/dirty/git-master_linux/multimedia/nvgstreamer/gst-nvarguscamera/gstnvarguscamerarcr.cpp, execute:521 No cameras available

I just installed the NVidia SDK and I am certain I have the latest LT4(or JetPack I think). So surely there is something I am missing. I dug through the issues on the Dusty-NV github repo and found nothing related to my error there. Can anybody give some hints to troubleshoot?

Hi,

Do you have a onboard camera, which indicates that the camera is connected to the TX2 board pin directly?
Based on the error you shared, the camera drive(called argus) cannot find any camera on your environment.

gstnvarguscamerarcr.cpp, execute:521 No cameras available

Could you help to confirm the following things first?

1. What is your camera type? onboard or USB?
2. Could you check if the camera is successfully mounted in the /dev/video*?
Please type

$ sudo /dev/video*

Returns: No such file or directory.

I shut the TX2 down and removed power cable. Then removed the onboard camera. inspected the board for damaged pins and reinstalled. Powered back on. Still producing the same results.

Is it safe to assume this is a USB camera? If so, and you run “dmesg --follow”, and then plug in the camera, what do you see as a result of the camera being connected? Note that there are other camera types than USB, and if not USB, then you probably won’t get a “/dev/video*” file.

The camera in question is NOT USB. It is indeed the onboard camera that ships with the TX2.

may I know which JetPack release you’re working with.
please also let us know which camera module it is, you might check the sticker on the camera board.

BTW,
by default we’re using plugin-manger to detect and register camera device.
could you please setup serial console to gather bootloader messages for checking.

It could be HW problem cause the i2c failed ack. Could you try to reflash whole device to check if the dev/video0 if still have problem you may need RMA.
