Ubuntu 20.04 LTS + GeForce Ti 3070 + Nivida 510 -> Black Screen

I am unable to install an Nvidia driver to support my GeForce 3070 Ti GPU on my Alienware machine.

Reproduce steps:

  1. Installed Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS on my machine, selected Installed 3rd party / proprietary software during install
  2. Installs successfully, including Nvidia drivers on GPU
  3. Restart the machine. Black screen with blinking cursor instead of login GUI. (I had tried later using nodemodeset with Nvidia driver installed, but this caused me unable to get to any login prompt, and unable to drop into a terminal or use my arrow keys in the Grub menu, and I had to reinstall the OS).
  4. Droped into terminal with Ctrl + Alt + F3, and generated an Nvidia bug report and made note of which applications were installed.
