USD Composer 2023.1.1 launch fails - Kit hung error dialog

I installed the beta USD Composer 2023.1.1 as my first Omniverse app install on the Windows platform. It ran the first time I launched it, but every successive attempt I get an error dialog that Kit is hung and the app doesn’t complete initialization. This error occurs after completing the Omniverse user login.

@cschroeder i am just another user, but have you set up a Nucleus server yet (localhost or otherwise)? also, some additional information would give the devs more context:

  1. your hardware spec (OS, GPU, etc)
  2. uploading the OV Launcher log for evaluation. you can find it in the path below:
  • Windows - C:\Users\%username%\.nvidia-omniverse\logs\launcher.log
  • Linux - ~/.nvidia-omniverse/logs/launcher.log

System:
Intel(R) Core™ i9-10900X CPU @ 3.70GHz

RTX 3090, now w/ 536.99 driver
Windows 10 Enterprise 19045.3324

seems like you are using a proxy server. you can take a look at the response in this post when utilizing a proxy server and see if it helps.

the alternative is try without the proxy server and confirm whether it’s something else.

I already have a shortcut configured to launch the Omniverse Launcher with the company proxy. I would not have been able to do the app install without it.

I do know from the one successful launch of USD Composer that it was blocked from downloading several assets from AWS due to the company firewall.

i am not familiar with the proxy server setup personally; so my capacity to help will be limited. but, if it’s useful, you can forward the TCP/IP and outbound connectivity requirement (found at the bottom of the page) to your IT and see if it’s something they are willing to accommodate since that’s the endpoints to those Nvidia assets that you have pointed out.

but sounds like you were able to launch Composer at least once before, but not any more after that?

I didn’t want to go fight a battle with IT about opening up the firewall until I was certain it was required for my needs (as they declined to do it when I was installing Omniverse Launcher).

Correct, after the first instance of successfully launching USD Composer I have not been able to launch it again.

i understand where you are coming from. hopefully the devs/mods can chime in and provide some guidance.

Yes it sounds like you are firewalled off from accessing important online live assets and resources that all of OV and kit apps need. It is not enough to get launcher to work. You have to have open and free access out to several backend web servers. Amazon S3 for one. Can you talk to your IT dept about opening up some access for you ? You can show them the logs and they will be able to see where your company firewall is blocking you.

One quick way to be sure, is have your IT dept, temporarily open up your traffic and see if it immediately fixes the issue. If it does, you at least have your answer. You may need to re-install the app to make sure it downloaded everything.

Try this webpage that shows you all the ports you need open in your firewall

https://docs.omniverse.nvidia.com/nucleus/latest/ports_connectivity.html

Make sure these websites are accessible
public registry: https://ovextensionsprod.blob.core.windows.net
storage (extensions archives): http://d4i3qtqj3r0z5.cloudfront.net

Thanks, for the additional endpoints, Richard3D. Now I know for certain I must work with IT to make Omniverse work at all within the company network.

Yes for sure.
