- When will the Nvidia Web Drivers be released for macOS Mojave 10.14 -

Okay, in this case don’t buy Nvidia anymore.

I’d say Nvidia are savvy enough to realise there’s no future in developing cuda or drivers for a platform thats hell bent on developing its own proprietary hardware and everything else that implies.

hi the latest news is that nvidia announced that it will no longer support mac os
I guess that means 10.13.6
no more CUDA drivers or web drivers for 10.13
after the last update
here is the info

I don’t know if nvidia is simply droping support just for 10.13
something that apple does after moving a few versions up
but once nvidia drops 10.13 then is all over
because they never mentioned anything about 10.14 or 10.15
or they never did or release anything for any of those 2

so maybe what it means is that is all over for now
until some one in apple pickup the phone and try to work some kind of deal
which it never going to happen under tim leadership

it seems like nvidia finally got enough of this topic and enough of apple

while a 5700 xt will be fine for mac os
there are a lot of complaint about the windows drivers
and is not Microsoft fault because this has happen before under other windows versions
so amd has the tendency to release unmatured drivers

you go to amd web page and there are a lot of complaint about driver crashes
most people want to multi boot
at least genuine mac owners want to use boot camp and use windows
to do some work or simply to run some games

while nvidia cards are good for encoding and for gaming
there is no support for newer cards under mac os
so it seems like these companies want us to have more than one gpu
one for mac and one for windows

why we can’t have a gpu that is good for both systems

this is straight up non sense
let people choose what they like or what they want
stop trying to shove your choice down people’s throat
I understand apple if you don’t like nvidia
I understand if you don’t want to make, write nvidia drivers
but why be an obstacle

oh yes I know, mac os belongs to you

that’s why you lost a lot of customers but of course you don’t care as long as you sell millions of iphones
apple was mac os but not any more
apple have totally destroy the os that help them to get where they are now , today
if it wasn’t for mac os we will never be here today
but they forgot where they came from
they are ungrateful and one day they will pay for that

anyway I don’t feel bad or anything because craptalina has been a complete disaster, so ios 13
they should change the name to ibug

their lost anyway and I don’t know how they wonder, why their market share is so low
I think tim real intention is to kill the mac and mac os
actions talk louder than words Timmy boy

Well I can stop comming here. It’s all been useless and futile, much like you jiren f-face. Go f yourself you dirt bag douche mutha Fuka

Here is the true full reason there are no Nvidia Mac drivers anymore and nothing was ever publicly said, I cannot reveal who said this to me but suffice to say it’s someone very high up and since yesterday’s announcement it no longer matters.

“Apple wants to control their markets and customers and it’s a closed OS. If Apple won’t cooperate then Nvidia cannot create and release Mac drivers. If we publicly announce that Apple is refusing to cooperate then Apple would strike at us. They have said this many times in private discussion. Apple is a very powerful company and they can crush any competition. We must concede. “

Truth is Tim Cook is the bad guy here. He refused to cooperate with Nvidia since high Sierra release. Apple Nvidia customers got screwed. It’s corporate war. I suggest you point your hostility towards the perpetrator and not the victim.

merry Christmas and happy new year, hope 2020 will be a good year for you

finally some one speaks the truth, thank you, tim cook has destroyed everything, can’t really wait for him to go away. if you go back to steve jobs interview about scully, he said, what can I said, I hired the wrong guy, well the same thing happened with tim cook, steve simpy hired the wrong guy, but steve was dying and he had to make a rush decision and he choose tim because it was the best option at the moment, but definitely not the right man for the job, but under the circumstances steve did the best he could with the options that he had available at that time

if steve would still be alive , he know that he made a mistake by hiring tim cook

watch the interview and replace the scully name with tim cook and is the same story
many things that steve mentioned there are happening right now

but of course tim has many defenders, the ones that dare to say that tim is better than steve
really , tim cook doesn’t know nothing about technology, doesn’t know how an iphone works
doesn’t know nothing about hardware and what this part or that part does

seeing and hearing tim cook in a key note is super depressing

anyway Kentucky fried chicken sale more chicken today that when it was first invented or stablished
maybe is because there are more people in the world today that we had back then

the same reason with the iPhone, steve broke the ice, gave the iPhone a respectable name and good reputation
that’s why the iPhone continue to sale, practically apple has lived of the iPhone reputation all this time

back to KFC
who ever invented the recipe is the one that should get the credit
not the manager today selling the chicken
tim cook selling iphones is like fried pieces of chicken that sell all by themselves
the manager doesn’t have to do anything, people just come in to buy

so saying that tim cook is better than steve jobs is wrong
steve was the one that did all the job
I think people forget very quickly and there are a bunch of ungrateful people in the world

tim has destroyed the mac and mac os, i-stand = 1,000 lol

nothing wrong with making money
but gives your costumer something good in return
stop selling junk and riping off your costumers

stop forcing your decisons on your costumners
give your costumers the right to choose

mr crook sucks

Anyone want to start a https://www.change.org/ petition?

That is not fact. It’s just an opinion. My opinion is entirely in the opposite side. Linus told as a few years ago that Nvidia is on the worst companies to work with. Sure there are more cases. Apple is known to control it’s hardware and their software, fair enough. They have told several years ahead what they are changing. We are dropping OpenGL/OpenCL, we are dropping 32 bits next year. Yes they fuck a lot of developers with their changes but at least they do it face to face.

Now Nvidia:

  1. Why they did not release an RTX High Sierra driver? At least give their customers the same basic function of a non RTX gpu unit, right? Why not support it?
  2. Apple can’t deny any third party not to sell their hardware in their ecosystem. In fact, looks like they are working with every other company as hard as possible to nix CUDA from OSX (arnold, redshift, octane, unreal, unity etc to bring support to Metal). Shouldn’t be easier just to work with Nvidia? Looks like Nvidia fucked Apple somewhere down the road now they are getting what they deserve. I don’t know if it was the defective GPU on apple notebook or when nvidia sued apple about I don’t know what patents here. So don’t tell as Nvidia can’t sue or fight Apple. Bullshit.
  3. Nvidia just took 18 months to communicate their customers that their RTX are not going to work in their Macs. Just WoW!
  4. And I have a 780ti,980ti and 1080. So don’t try to take the discussion away from the facts I wrote here.

Cheers.

P.S. The Jirens-guy who does not even read others posts and writes nonsense stupid long post. I hate this guy. I have hated 18 months coming here and watch he was posting again and again same fucking nonsense just to say nothing new.

I do read other people post, if you look closely I also reply somethings which it proved that I read what the person wrote

your post was kind of long too, do you hear me complaining, no right, just saying
the same way you think that I write nonsense , also some other people might also think that you write non sense too

so is all fair

I thank you for your sincerity
I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not

I don’t personally know you so I can’t say that I hate you, even if publicly confess that you hate me
you based your hate in what I write not in who i am
that just prove that you disagree with my way of thinking and that is why you hate
you simply can’t accept a person that has an opposite way of thinking
too bad for you

here is the deal
this is not your personal Facebook page or your twitter page, that is if you have an account on any of those 2
the point is that this is an open forum, not something that you own or belongs to you
you can kick me out if i walk inside your house because is your property
but this place is public, if you don’t like what i write simply don’t read it
is very simple, but the problem is that you want to force people to what you want
sorry but i can’t grant your wish at least for now

just in case you post was also an opinion not facts, you don’t work inside apple or nvidia to really know what’s going on

I been here so many times before with same story
“personal attacks” nothing new

just because you have a different point of view or see things in a different perspective
is not good enough reason to make things personal, attack that person integrity
but hey no problem, I just wanted to make that clear, I also want to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year

and just for the record, to make this post count as something related to the topic
aorus released an AMD card that look kind of nice, even I don’t like AMD but I can buy that card just to run mac os, because it doesn’t look at bad as all the others
and that one matches my motherboard perfectly

https://www.aorus.com/GV-R57XTAORUS-8GD

peace

1 = why waste your time and effort on an OS that it will be obsolete soon, specially if apple is giving nvidia the elbow don’t appriciate nvidia efforts, make nvidia life miserable, i will do exactly the same thing
how do you know if apple didn’t stopped NVidia from releasing the web drivers
after all mac os belongs to apple, that’s why tom wrote that apple fully control the drivers, which is absolutely truth

2 = please that same old story again and you talked about me that i don’t bring nothing new to the table
something that happen like a decade ago, why they didn’t do it 6 months later or a year later after the scandal
the fact that happened 10 years ago is just proof that this don’t have nothing to do with that
and even if it is related
qualcomm and apple had a problem recently and they shake hands and started buiness again
so using that as an excuse doesn’t prove anything
other than you are trying to justify apple actions for removing nvidia from mac os

i had a 2 high point cards that suffered the same fate as nvidia cards, ironically when apple launched Mojave
do you know what highpoint support told me, exactly what tom wrote
apple control the drives and apple didn’t allow them to release any drivers for those cards on mac os mojave
weird right

3 = wrong, go to the beginning of the page where tom made 2 announcements just a few months after mojave was launch
RTX was never supported on high sierra , much less Mojave
even apple discontinue support for their software after a few years
so why NVidia has to continue to support and obsolete os

yes apple annouced that they were going to make changes
but that doesn’t mean that didn’t have any kind of conflict in the inside
the famous speculation, can nvidia make the web drives, did they made the web drivers, is apple going to help nvidia, is apple blocking nvidia, nvidia doesn’t need to wait for apple to sign the drivers
and so many more, nobody really knows, including me and you

4 = i have a RTX 2080 ti extreme and you didn’t wrote any facts

i finally figure you out
you think your opinion is the only one that matters
that you are right and everybody else is wrong

well your opinion and everybody else opinions matters
when someone is right is right and when some one is wrong is wrong
let’s be fair

now you might have a few reasons to hate me
you insult me , disrespect me and i don’t hate you

Mr, Beltzak,

There is almost no higher authority on this subject matter than the very individual I quoted. I used quotes meaning between them is word for word and verbatim. It was not my opinion as you suggest. Since Nvidia and Apple have now officially parted ways I no longer feel I have to keep my insider information secret and wanted to offer some clarity and reason to all users. If you choose to disregard or ignore that is entirely your prerogative.

https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-toolkit-release-notes/index.html

CUDA 10.2 (Toolkit and NVIDIA driver) is the last release to support macOS for developing and running CUDA applications. Support for macOS will not be available starting with the next release of CUDA.

it’s a war, now it’s nvidia’s turn.

Everyone must switch from Apple, that’s for sure for many reasons, not only Nvidia. But what Apple advice their customers to do with Macbook Pro 16G/1Tb/Nvidia 750M - throw it to trash?

Ok. Sorry then, but I don’t really believe it. Like Jaren said with Qualcomm there was a billion sue ongoing and look what happened against all odds they settle down and reach an agreement. And is not like Nvidia did now law sued them before. They did. So why not now for anti competitive behavior. My guess again is that they need to use Metal api and they do not want that.

I do believe you thou. We all lost here.

Look Jiren-Ultra-Instincts I don’t really hate you but I do hate your behavior. I have read very very long post from you just to say the same again and again that could be written in just a few lines. Like just now. If you read carefully I would have to write some things I already wrote “again”.

  1. FACT: I did not speak about wasting time. I spoke about why Nvidia did not support RTX Graphics Card in High Sierra. Did you read that? High Sierra already supports CUDA and 1000 GPU series so why the hell did not Nvidia support this RTX GPUS without RTX supports. At least make them useful for their customers. But no, they choose not to support them I guess because they wanted to push Apple for Nvidias agenda that is to tie third parties to CUDA. And of course is legal and reasonable to do it but not this way. (Same shit that people blames Apple for). This is not Apples fault, they do not need Apple’s help to support RTX in High Sierra and you would not have a 1500€ or whatever being wasted in macOS.

  2. SPECULATION: You just said yourself. Even with Qualcomm when the relationship were like shit, Apple not paying Qualcomm and Qualcomm in a law suit involving with more than a billion sue they settled. So why the hell don’t do that with Nvidia. My guess, I already said several times is that Nvidia don’t want to support Metal because it’s against their own CUDA business and would bring people choice so use AMD instead of Nvidia.

  3. FACT: Nvidia just communicated officially that: CUDA 10.2 (Toolkit and NVIDIA driver) is the last release to support macOS for developing and running CUDA applications. Support for macOS will not be available starting with the next release of CUDA. Not 18 months ago. Just now.

So to resume to you:
Fact 1) Nvidia did not support customers who bought RTX gpus in High Sierra even if they could.
Fact 2) Apple is working with a lot of third parties to help them bring support their software to Metal.
Fact 3) Nvidia has been in the dark until now. Now we do know what to do. You don’t want to loose CUDA or you don’t have choice to loose CUDA, well, now you know that or you use High Sierra or you go to Linux or Windows. Was not so hard was it?

Your questions;

  1. why waste your time and effort on an OS that it will be obsolete soon
Well to have work done man. If I need to render things in Redshift or Blender or whatever I need CUDA and I have 3 gpus I prefer to use an “obsolete” OS because I can use the hardware I purchased. I mean these gpus can do the very same work I wanted when I purchased them in High Sierra.

  2. I don’t justify them. I take sides in here. My believe is what I wrote. I wish they could settle and that I could use them (my 3 nvidia gpu) in Mojave.

  3. You are fucking right, there is no prove, we don’t know. But now, after 18 months and what nvidia has officially communicated, we know what our choices are. Yes we don’t know why, but at least we won’t be wasting time. You go to windows, linux or amd route. ;P

  4. Mi opinions is just that.

Do you need CUDA in your Macbook? I have a 2012 Macbook Pro (650m) and runs fine in Mojave. But I do not use CUDA in my laptop. If you need it, stick with High Sierra. I will get things done.

OK. I have been following this thread for over a year now and I would like to contribute some of my thoughts about the situation from a researcher’s perspective. I am currently doing research in Robotics, mostly in robot motion planning so I think I am qualified to be a “pro” user.

I mainly use Ubuntu and Robot Operating System (ROS) on a desktop PC as my workstation. There are occasions that I work with Windows if I want to run certain simulation environments. The CUDA plays a huge role in terms of Deep Learning. In addition, I use CUDA + Tensorflow for object recognition during motion planning. Besides the desktop, I also carry a MacBook Pro as my daily driver. I mostly use it for writing papers (using LaTex), making slides or running non-CUDA codes on-the-go. It is really inconvenient that I cannot have a unified development environment.

In my humble opinion, Apple is really missing the big opportunity here as they believe the only “pro” users are artists or video makers, where tons of researchers used to carry MacBooks because the built quality and Unix based OS. Today, Microsoft opens its arm to embrace open-source software, and make developer-friendly environment by introducing WSL, VS code and tons of other useful tools. Recently, they even announce that they are supporting ROS. Same with NVIDIA, they embrace scientific computing for a long time and start selling CUDA enabled development boards (Jetson series). It’s really useful because you can mount one of the development boards on a drone to implement on-board deep learning applications.

Back to the drivers/compatibly issue, Apple should not force third-party hardware companies to use its Metal API. The walled-garden might work well for mobile devices but certainly not good for a development/research environment (that is why we see Linux is making dramatic impacts in recent years). Without CUDA, they are giving up all the users who are working on parallel computing, machine learning and robotics. The arrogance and lack of vision from the current management teams at Apple are astonishing. Personally, I will move away from MacBooks on my next hardware upgrade.

Anybody still uses MacOS on their macbook? I mean, obviously you should install windows 10 or linux, the first one is even oficially supported by Apple. I only use MacOS to support firmware updates and I bought Apple Macbook just not to pay for Windows, because I do not pay for software as a rule (windows OS in this case). And BTW, I do not think that Metal 2 is like better than opengl/cl… Any other opinions? Never understood why devs always rebrand all that public API staff. Just do that in private part of API, etc.
