Work Flow:

I’m rendering out PtZDepth AOV with the RTX Interactive Path Tracing renderer and want to use it to calculate the world positions at each pixel and for training a gsplat model.

Main Issue:

When I rendered out the Isaac Factory looking up, I noticed that the PtZDepth values for the skydome outside the factory is 0.0 (which suggests that they are close). I would expect the values to be 1.0 as the sky is “infinitely far”, outside of the RTX depth max threshold.

Reproduction Steps:

  1. Download & launch Omniverse USD Composer
  2. Download Downloadable Asset Packs — Omniverse USD and open Showcases_Content_NVD@10011/Samples/Showcases/2023_2_1/IsaacWarehouse/IsaacWarehouse.usd in Omniverse USD Composer
  3. Look up at the ceiling in the viewport (per attached image above)
  4. Set the viewport renderer to RTX - Interactive (Path Tracing)
  5. Set Render Settings > Common > View > Debug View > Render Target to `PT AOV Z-Depth*
  6. See that the skydome outside has a depth value of 0 even though it is far away

Can also be reproduced by creating a new empty USD scene with a Sphere or any geometry. The depth values for the background behind the geometry are also 0.0.

Thank you for reporting this important bug. I have filed a BUG ticket for it. We appreciate it.

I have filed a bug with the engineers and they are now looking into this.

Thanks for the update (on all three of the reports)!

You are welcome
