Topic Description

How can I make sure that newly created objects in Isaac Sim use meters instead of inches?** Am I missing any settings or steps to ensure consistent unit scaling?

Detailed Description

English Version of Your Question:

I am using SketchUp to create columns and walls, all with a height of 3m. After converting them to .usd and opening them in Isaac Sim, the unit in the bottom left corner initially shows inches (in).

To switch to meters, I went to Layer > Root Layer and changed Meters Per Unit (MPU) to 1. After this, the displayed unit switched to meters (m), and my imported columns remained 3m tall as expected.

However, when I create a new cube and set its height to 3, it is much smaller than the columns. It seems like the cube is still being interpreted as 3 inches instead of 3 meters.

I tested this by setting MPU to 0.0254 (inches), and in this case, my columns shrunk to 3 inches. But when I created a new cube with a height of 3, it matched the height of the columns correctly.

So my question is:

  • Why do new objects still use inches even after changing MPU to meters?
  • How can I ensure that newly created objects use meters instead of inches?

I really appreciate any insights or suggestions. Thank you!

Screenshots or Videos

I set MPU to 0.0254, which made the displayed unit inches (in). With this setting, when I create a cube with a height of 3, it correctly matches the height of my columns and walls.

Oh, I just realized I found a way to fix it after posting this. I’m really sorry for any unnecessary trouble! I first created a new empty scene, set Meters Per Unit (MPU) to 1, and then imported my SketchUp-generated scene into it. After that, I created a new cube and set its height to 3, and now it correctly matches the height of my columns and walls.
