How to upgrade JP 5.1.2 from JP5.1.1 installed in NVME

Last time I upgrade jetpack, I lost all the data because the instructions doesn’t work for NVME or I got a known bug which solution didn’t work, really I don’t know why I lost the data. Orin NX supports NVME, but still you are putting instructions only for flash memory (or sdcard maybe?), if the NVME have different commands, different instructions should be included in the guide, as I don’t know what of the two things made the data lost I cannot trust in follow the guide. Please , tell me what commands I need to use in the guide to update in NVME and update the guide to add the step by step for NVME installations. I cannot afford lose the data again.

Hi,

This issue only happens when you update from 34.1 to 35.2.1, and if your L4T is already 35.2.1+, then it would not be affected.

But I’d suggest making sure your rootfs is using all the space available on the NVMe drive, so the update won’t be interrupted by some questions about enlarging the partition, which may cause the update to fail if you just abort it.

hi I specifically refer to the commands with /dev/mmcblk0 , I don’t think I have such address for that commands, or if something is written there, I don’t thing my nvme file system will find those new updated files there and will crash, I think is what made my lose of data, but obviously I have no clue of this kernel stuff , probably Im wrong, if you say me that /dev/mmcblk0 commands are ok with system flashed in nvme for me is fine I will , my file system takes all the nvme data available, wont ask expand anything.

My partitions are nvme0n1px where filesystem is nvme0n1p1 , nvme0n1p11 for EFI, no mmcblk0 anywhere

My Orin NX is not booting after update. It is not entering in BIOS config also, just booting logo with some test, but wont take action when push the keys it says, but I shouldn’t touch any keys, or config anything that just should boot. No errors where displayed in the update process.

Could enter in bios, it is recognizing my nvme and it is select to boot in it boot it is not booting just black screen and restarting itself after a few minutes in a boucle.

So you update to 5.1.2 and the device is not able to boot up now?
Do you have any serial console log to share?
Is it a DevKit (Xavier NX DevKit/Orin Nano DevKit) or a custom board?

exactly I was said and I asked
only boots in logo screen and I can enter in bios, my nvme that was working perfect with 4 moths of work on it, updated as the guide and you said, no errors.
just dont boot in default and stock waveshare kit carrier board.
nothing to share except the default logo screen, no console is openned, just logo , f1 and f11 options and something about a custom header in the screen center.

Are you sure there was no error during update?
Debian-based OTA is only intended for DevKits by NVIDIA, but not custom carrier boards by third-party vendors.

I mean something like this:

there is not such nvidia carrier board for orin nx. About what carrier are you talking about, waveshare carrier board the same than nvidia carrier board. Nothing the guide says of something doesn’t exists.

obviously no errors.
not possible console if doesn’t boot , only the boot screen.
waveshare carrier board is 1:1 nvidia carrier board

I dont have access to the serial terminals right now, as I don’t have Linux now, it is in a rover that I need dismount to access.

what about the micro usb and putty
Can you tell me what can be happening, and please don’t say me the carrier board, because for sure is not.
What about the recovery partition it is said in the bios, can I return to previous condition?

There is. Orin NX can be used with Xavier NX Developer Kit or Orin Nano Developer Kit.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just take a picture of the device you are using.

Micro USB is not going to give you access to serial console log; it’s only accessible via TTL-USB cable.

I don’t think you know more than us about the issue.

Can you be more specific?
I think we only have recovery kernel, which the device will enter after multiple failure of trying to boot up.

Just one thing for notice:
For any booting issues like “Why me device does not work?” or “It only boots into a black screen”, there is nothing we can help without booting log from serial console, or debugging without the log is just like telepathy.

what says there Nvidia development kit. OK
you can see me nvme is recognized
you can see the recovery partition I refer, can go back with any option there?

It doesn’t mater if the NVMe drive is being recognized or not; if the rootfs is corrupted, then it is not going to boot the device.

It is not going to give much help.

Again, we need booting log from serial console, not these blurry pictures.
Or there really is nothing we can do except re-flashing.

can I have a contact of your supervisor?

If it is the kernel image that gets corrupted, then switching to Kernel Partition in L4T Boot Mode may help.
Kernel image is by default loaded from a file in rootfs, but we also have a dedicated partition for storing kernel images.

If you just cannot give the log we need,
the situation won’t change no matter who is taking care of this issue…

I still want a supervisor enter in contact with me. Thank you.
you can still try to fix the issue if you wish, but having no idea I would say is happening exactly what I said in my question, why I did that question, and the result looks directly related with the answer given. It doesn’t look a corrupted kernel, isn’t? but that mmccblk… thing looks quite similar to what I said in my few first posts.

So yeah, please I would like to a supervisor check this as can cost me a lot of money, that for sure I will claim if it it is not fixed without lost of data in any way and was derived by a bad advice. There is not such corruption but there is mmccblk missing.
