Issue with HDMI output

Hello, I’m using a jetson nano module emmc with an official jetson nano carrier board: p3450-0000

The problem is that i can’t get any video output from HDMI (I can’t test displayport)

int eh early boot stage of the device i can see this (from cboot?):

am i doing anything wrong?

can this problem be caused by a wrong dtb being loaded? how can i check which exact dtb should i pass to u-boot?

any suggestion that can be helpful in solving this issue is very apreciated.

Try to share the full dmesg if you cannot interpret the log…

For example, you told us you are testing HDMI, but the kernel log you shared is all related to DP… I really don’t know whether what you said is correct or not.

Could you try to flash your whole device back to default jetpack image first to confirm the hardware is fine?

It looks like currently both kernel and dtb are customized one by you. The DP error log seems abnormal.
I would suggest a full flash first.

If you don’t want to flash default image, at least check if “lsmod” command on your jetson is empty or not.

This is the default jetpack build flashed on the board.

I still get no video output from HDMI.

I’ve also tried swapping hdmi cable and display, i still get no output.

the problem is not that X doesn’t display anything, it’s that i don’t get ANY output on screen, not even framebuffer startup logs/messages/anything.

You can try to use l4t_create_default_user.sh on your host PC first and then reflash to bypass the system configuration.

After you bypass the configuration, your uart log can proceed and you can help dump the full dmesg. Currently, your serial console does not have full kernel log.

May I ask are you always using same module to test here?

Your log seems telling that you are testing with multiple modules. If you are not using multiple modules to test, then something is wrong here.

Also, just a suggestion. If you want to share multiple logs, please just attach them as separate file but not copy and paste. It would be hard to check posts if you copy more and more logs…

I’ve been using a single module, with always the same carrier board:

I was asked to flash the Jetpack version of Linux 4 Tegra on the module, and so i did

Here is the procedure i followed:

  • downloaded jetpack
  • unpacked sample rootfs
  • ran add_binaries
  • ran the add default user script
  • used flash.sh command to flash everything on the module

then i booted the module connected via serial console for logging in and printing the dmesg: this is the result of the last post.

from now on i’ll make sure to attach everything as file instead of posting it as quoted text.

yet, the latest dmesg log i posted is the one resulting from the above procedure.

still no video output from either hdmi or display port.

I don’t know if this is of any relevance for the video output to work: the board is in production mode and has a PKC fuse burned for secure boot.
for flashing i’m therefore passing the -u option to flash.sh as it needs my private key for flashing.

I don’t have another module nor carrier board for swapping and test.

The latest log said you are using below dtb. This is from NV default one.

The problem here is “b00” and “a02” are two different kinds of carrier boards and modules.

A02 is a module that was released in very early stage in Jetson nano lifecycle. I mean it was a module released for like 4 years ago and there was no longer such module anymore.

B00 module is a commercial one and most of user should use this kind of module.

The dtb of these two are different and are not interchangeable.

Then, I would like to confirm which kind of module is in use here? I believe it should be b00 one because a02 one seems to be the wrong customization done by you.

As for the HDMI problem, I would like to know does this module and carrier board ever be able to give correct HDMI output before?

I mean, does this issue happened recently and suddenly?

I saw HDMI driver is not able to read edid from the monitor anymore. And DP side has same problem with dpaux too, which you could think it as the i2c part in DP part is also dead.

yes, indeed I think i made an error during my custom flashing procedure and i used the a02 dtb

flash.sh flashed automatically the b00 dtb on the RP1 and RP1-1 partition, so i think the b00 dtb is the correct one to use.

I think what made me think it was an a02 revision was the following on the bottom of the carrier board PCB:

and the following message in the kernel boot process

anyway, I’ve never been able to get video output from the device, it never worked.

I only noticed this recently because during the earlier stages of development i never needed to connect the device to a display for video output as i always worked through serial console.

We just tried to flash a02 jetson nano devkit and it has no error as you mentioned.

Thus, this looks like a hardware defect on you side.

I’ll check with the hardware supplier for a module replacement.

I think they also made a wrong “mix and match” providing me with a b00 module paired with an a02 carrier board, which of course would not work together.
