Jetson Orin Nano does not boot after upgrading JetPack from 5.x to 6.x – black screen after bootloader menu

Hello,

My Jetson Orin Nano no longer boots after upgrading JetPack from 5.x to 6.x.

Upgrade details

  • JetPack 5.x was originally flashed to a microSD

  • The system worked correctly on JetPack 5

  • JetPack 6.x was installed by upgrading the existing system

  • No clean flash and no SDK Manager flashing was used

Problem

  • On power-up, the bootloader menu appears normally

  • After that, the screen becomes completely black

  • Ubuntu never starts (no splash, no login)

  • The board stays powered on but does not finish booting

Environment

  • Board: Jetson Orin Nano

  • Storage: microSD

  • Display: HDMI (working monitor)

Questions

  1. Is upgrading JetPack 5 → 6 in-place supported on Orin Nano?

  2. Is a clean re-flash required for JetPack 6?

  3. How can I debug or recover this (UART logs, recovery mode)?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Thanks for visiting the NVIDIA Developer Forums.
To ensure better visibility and support, I’ve moved your post to the Jetson category where it’s more appropriate

Hi,

The Orin Nano developer kit does not have an HDMI interface.
During an OTA upgrade, customized BSP packages will be replaced by the official ones, so please contact your board vendor to obtain their customized BSP.

Thanks
