Lost input peripherals after graphics driver/xserver upgrade (xserver 7.7, nvidia 340.65-2)

Hi,
yesterday, after rebooting system following rather long uptime, the mouse and keyboard became inactive after the xserver was started. Xorg logs backtrace contains hints about nvidia drivers, so my guess is that’s where the problem lies. Then again, many packages were upgraded among the nvidia ones, so never know. (meaning I might be littering completely irrelevant forum)

What would be the right course of action here? Downgrade nvidia drivers?

Tried downgrading

nvidia-glx:amd64
libgl1-nvidia-glx-i386:i386
libnvidia-ml1:amd64

xserver-xorg-core:amd64
xserver-common:amd64

to their previous versions but no luck.
