After a while the kernel trys to start again.
I have done the following:

  • Used the SDK manager on Ubuntu 18.04;
  • Flashed a new OS (emmc);
  • Installed an image on an SD card using the tutorial found here.

The flashing seems to correctly occur. The terminal of the SDK manager does not mention any error.
Still, nothing seems to change the current state of the device.

Any idea on how to fix this issue?

Is this a non-developer kit carrier board with an eMMC model of Nano? Is this the older Nano, and not Xavier nor Orin? I ask because dev kits don’t have an eMMC model of Nano module, and eMMC modules normally are sold by third parties who attach them to their carrier board. It is possible though to attach an eMMC module to an actual developer’s kit carrier board and have that work. Regardless, the point is that the software required for flashing usually differs if the carrier board is different.

Different pins of the module can have different functions. This aids in designing carrier boards since lane routing can be changed. It also means the lane routing has to be in the firmware via a device tree (the functions on the carrier board are generally not “plug-n-play” and the device tree defines that hardware). Third party carrier board manufacturers will do one of the following:

  • Provide a patch to the dev kit flash software (usually just the device tree).
  • Provide a rebranded flash software (with some sort of device tree change being part of rebranding).
  • State that their carrier board is an exact match to the dev kit board and that no patch is needed.

Please note that in particular a dev kit has the SD card mounted on the bottom of the module, and that an eMMC model only has the SD card mounted on the carrier board. The software support for those two is quite different. The SD card image does not work with (nor apply to) eMMC models. Even if this is an NVIDIA carrier board you would need a full flash due to the eMMC, and SD cards do not flash anything on the module itself.

Incidentally, normal eMMC models put non-rootfs content (the SD card has rootfs content; eMMC puts it in a partition) in various other partitions. The SD card model has the equivalent of that other non-rootfs content in QSPI memory on the module. Even if this were an SD card model you would still have to flash the module once with a release compatible with the rootfs you are putting in before it would work with that SD card content. eMMC models just don’t work with that content without jumping through some very specific flash procedures.

So to start with you have to identify if this is truly an eMMC module, and if it is, exactly which carrier board it is using. Most likely you would then need to look at the documentation from that vendor as to what is needed for flash. It is highly unlikely that an SD card would ever work without special steps for any eMMC model.
