ROS installation on NVIDIA Drivepx2

I’m a beginner and I’m trying to install ROS on Nvidia Drivepx2 for my project. I googled regarding this and found some shell scripts on GitHub. Most of them have the similar procedure. I followed the one on the https://github.com/yuxiang-gao/instal… . When I’m trying to execute the instruction

$ sudo apt-get install ros-kinetic-desktop

I’m getting the following error

Reading package lists... Done

Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

ros-kinetic-desktop : Depends: ros-kinetic-common-tutorials but it is not going to be installed

Depends: ros-kinetic-geometry-tutorials but it is not going to be installed
Depends: ros-kinetic-robot but it is not going to be installed
Depends: ros-kinetic-ros-tutorials but it is not going to be installed
Depends: ros-kinetic-visualization-tutorials but it is not going to be installed

Depends: ros-kinetic-viz but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I tried the installing the required dependencies by

$sudo apt-get install <package-name>

and had no luck, as every package requires some other packages to be installed and those require some other packages and this kept on going.

Please suggest a way to install ROS on Nvidia Drivepx2.

dear tojit,
have you checked https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1032204/faq/drive-px2-ros-installation/ ?

Dear SivaRamaKrishna,
I have seen that article and Googled for PDK installation and found the following instructions on https://puppet.com/docs/pdk/1.x/pdk_install.html

wget https://apt.puppet.com/puppet-tools-release-xenial.deb
sudo dpkg -i puppet-tools-release-xenial.deb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pdk

when I’m executing

sudo apt-get install pdk

I’m getting the following error

nvidia@tegra-ubuntu:~/Desktop$ sudo apt-get install pdk
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package pdk

As I’m new to this, kindly provide some resources regarding the execution of the First step of https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1032204/faq/drive-px2-ros-installation/ that is “Install the PDK and flash the target build onto the board as described in the PDK Developer’s Guide”

Dear tojit,
Here PDK means our Drive PDK. The board already gets installed with PDK. If you want to update to latest PDK you need flash your board via SDKmanager(https://developer.nvidia.com/drive/downloads). Note that, the last release for DRIVE PX 2 has NVIDIA DRIVE™ OS 5.0.10.3.

Dear SivaRamaKrishna,

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Now, I followed all the steps in https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1032204/faq/drive-px2-ros-installation/ and at STEP 8, that is while executing

sudo apt-get install ros-kinetic-desktop

I’m getting the same error as described in https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1063226/drive-linux/ros-installation-on-nvidia-drivepx2/post/5384060/#5384060.

In what circumstances, this error will be thrown?

My NVIDIA DRIVE™ OS version is

nvidia@tegra-ubuntu:~/Desktop$ cat /etc/nvidia/version/-ubuntu-rootfs.txt
5.0.10.3-12606092

Dear tojit,

Could you please re-install ROS using the link below? Thanks.
https://docs.nvidia.com/drive/active/5.1.6.0L/nvvib_docs/index.html#page/DRIVE_OS_Linux_SDK_Development_Guide%2FBootloader%2Frobot_os.html%23wwpID0E0HJ0HA

Dear SteveNV,

Thanks for the reply.

I followed the procedure in https://docs.nvidia.com/drive/active/5.1.6.0L/nvvib_docs/index.html#page/DRIVE_OS_Linux_SDK_Development_Guide%2FBootloader%2Frobot_os.html%23wwpID0E0HJ0HA and had no luck. I’m still getting the same error as described in https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1063226/drive-linux/ros-installation-on-nvidia-drivepx2/post/5384060/#5384060.

You may see the steps which I followed at https://www.codepile.net/pile/JZyYypZv .

Please correct me, If I’m doing something wrong.

Dear SteveNV and SivaRamaKrishna,

I updated the OS packages and ROS got installed.

Thank you for the support!
