Unable to flash Orin NX with SDK Manager on DevKit

Hi,

I’m on Ubuntu 20.04 and ran SDK Manager to flash Jetpack 5.1.4 but am unable to flash my Orin NX 16GB on the devkit.

It keeps claiming SSH is not ready but I am able to ping fc00:1:1:0::2

I am able to manually ssh into the address

turns out there’s a misconfiguration in my SSH daemon and client… my /etc/ssh/sshd_config Port was set to a different port than the typical 22 so SDK Manager kept trying to ssh in to a different port. However, my local user has the correct ssh configs so I was able to ssh into the Jetson when I tried it manually. That was hard to find!

After fixing this by specifying port 22 on /etc/ssh/ssh_config explicitly, I’m able to get past the ssh not ready issue. I think to make it more hardened against user config issues, SDK Manager should explicitly connect to port 22 since that’s pretty much hardcoded in rcm boot anyways.

For posterity who may be dealing with other ssh issues, I found it useful to take a look at the actual script that the SDK Manager is calling under the hood and test this in isolation. On my machine the file is found at ~/nvidia/nvidia_sdk/JetPack_5.1.4_Linux_JETSON_ORIN_NX_TARGETS/Linux_for_Tegra/tools/kernel_flash/l4t_network_flash.func in the run_flash_commmand_on_target() function. Specifically, this command sshpass -p root ssh "root@${1}" "${SSH_OPT[@]}" "echo SSH ready" or, in practice, sshpass -v -p root ssh root@fc00:1:1:0::2 -q -oServerAliveInterval=90 -oServerAliveCountMax=3 -oStrictHostKeyChecking=no -oUserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null "echo ssh ready"

I was able to flash 5.1.4 successfully after making the above changes.

and make sure to check /etc/services and have ssh be set to port 22 there. The additional SDK components step requires it apparently…
