App Crashes when loading USD with Latest RTX Driver

I have some USDs I have been working for some time. Yesterday, when I tried to open one, my Omniverse application crashed (at about ~90% of USD being opened). I tried using a custom app with Kit 106.5 and USD Composer from Launcher and both crashed. I tried a different computer, same issue.

I then tried a different computer I had not used for a while and everything worked fine. I decided to rollback my other machine’s driver back, and the USD opened just fine.

This issue is there with GeForce Game Ready Driver v572.47 and NVIDIA Studio Driver v572.16. The driver version I rolled back to that worked fine is GeForce Game Ready Driver v565.90.

I can move forward with this older driver, but I figure I would share this finding. By the way, I tried various different USDs and some cause the app to crash and some don’t. Not sure what exactly triggers the crash with the latest GPU driver.

I’ve noticed that the setting: ‘useFabricSceneDelegate = true’ causes my kit apps to crash if there is a skeleton or a navmesh in my stage. When I set it to ‘false’ , it does not crash. This setting is found in the .kit file

I’m not sure if this is the same problem, but it’s easy to try.

Hi @dvelazco Unfortunately, yes you are way beyond our recommended driver. We do not recommend upgrading drivers automatically unless specifically needing to. Our driver requirements are much lower for stability. You can see them here Technical Requirements — Omniverse USD Composer

Having said that, what driver you use is up to you. Some people do just fine with the latest drivers. Others have to roll back a few months. Others more. It is whatever works for you. But you may not want to automatically upgrade drivers if you have a stable version.

On the FSD side of things. FSD is still being developed into a full product. It does not work with everything yet. It is true that FSD whilst incredible at many things, can actually cause a crash on other things. Especially character workflows. You are free to try both on and off.

By the way, from looking at the list of driver versions, the recommended v537.58 driver is not even listed any more. I searched for the driver here:

Given that the launcher and USD Composer are deprecated, is there a more up to date page to look up driver requirements for latest version of Kit?

Yes the drivers are pretty old, I admit. So just use your best judgement. Again, like any software, you can start at the latest and roll back if needed, or start at the recommended and roll forward if you feel you have to. But that is our page as it stands.

And just for clarification, Launcher is depreciated, but not USD Composer. It is alive and well just as a template you build from kit, not as a pre-made app.
